This pandemic
Showing us
The best of humanity

The worst of humanity

Mother Earth doing well
Appreciating the lighter touch
Humanity is having on her
While we remain home
Feeling exhausted
From over stimulated senses
In confinement
 
So interesting…
Our frustrations
And our anxieties and fears
Rooting us in stagnation
And maybe apathy
Or in home baked goods
Eating our emotions
As the saying goes…
 
So interesting...
This helplessness
We feel
Over our lack of control
 
But wait
Didn’t we just make a choice?
A choice that led to action?
 
Yes
Indeed
We did
 
Individually
And
Collectively
We chose
We acted
And we had an impact
WE slowed the spread of Covid
 
We are not helpless… we have agency!
 
So here we are
Faced with the truth
Of the power of our agency
Here we are
At this crucial, critical time
Confined
With limited escape
From this reality
 
We are not helpless… we have agency!
 
But…
It is easier to avoid
To resist
To be cynical
To passively fall in line
When the crisis abates
To drift along with whatever the
Next normal will be…
 
Passivity wins
Chalked up as human nature
 
But is it human nature?
Or
Is it habit and societal pressure?
 
We are not helpless…we have agency!
 
In fact, now,
Each of us is LIVING PROOF
That our choices
And our actions
Impact THE WORLD
 
The Universe is giving us a lesson
A collective, shared experience
So that we know
UNDENIABLY KNOW IN OUR BONES
The simple truth of existence:
By acting in the best interest of others
We are taken care of too
By taking care of ourselves
We are taking care of others
 
So on this May Day
As NEW LIFE
Bursts forth in nature
Let Cabin Fever
Become Spring Fever
Which is the IMPERATIVE for
A NEW CYCLE
REBIRTH
REGENERATION
CREATIVE EXPRESSION
AND THE CELEBRATION OF
THE JOY OF BEING ALIVE
 
In these dark times
On this May Day
Reclaim your agency
Embrace your power
And recognize
The unprecedented opportunity
For renewal
That is staring you down
DARING YOU
TO MAKE A DIFFERENT CHOICE
THIS TIME
 
In these dark times
For those we have lost
For those who are suffering
For those who are taking care of us
We must engage our agency
And shine our light
 
We must live from our hearts
From LOVE
Because we KNOW that
By acting in the best interest of others
We are taken care of too
By taking care of ourselves
